Understanding Mesh Sizes in Food Processing
Not all sieves are the same! The photo above shows different mesh sizes (0.3mm – 8mm), and each has a unique role in food processing:
0.3 – 0.6mm: For fine powders like flour, spices, baby food.
1.0 – 2.0mm: For medium grains like pap, cassava flour, ground nuts.
3.0 – 4.0mm: For dried fruit powders, fish feed, and some grains.
5.0 – 8.0mm: For coarse crushing – perfect for big particles like dried chunks or feed.
The smaller the mesh, the more expensive.
Tip: You don’t always need to grind your product smoothly in one step. You can choose to crush coarsely first using bigger mesh sizes (e.g., 4mm–8mm), then move to smaller sizes (0.3mm–2mm) for smooth and consistent powder. This saves time and protects your machines from overload.
At Dehydrator Hub, we guide you on the right mesh size and processing steps to get the perfect final product.
